HMC update for V3R3.7
If you are currently running HMC 3.2.6 or less, the HMC must first be installed with HMC V3R3.5 or greater before you can install this update. Order the HMC 3.3.5 Recovery CD set from the HMC V3.3 downloads page, and then upgrade your HMC to 3.3.5. You can then update to HMC 3.3.7, the recommended and supported HMC level for HMCs that manage servers with POWER4 processors.
This package updates the software on the HMC to Version 3 Release 3.7, and should be installed on top of HMC Version 3 Release 3.0 and higher. This update can be referenced by APAR IY82939. IBM recommends that all customers update to this level or higher.

Installation procedures
The HMC is a closed system. All tasks are accomplished using the graphical user interface known as the HMC interface.
Corrective service can be provided on a CD-ROM or as a ZIP file.
The ZIP file is available through anonymous FTP download. If the HMC has direct FTP access to the Internet, skip Steps 1 & 2.
Step 1. Decide where to store the ZIP file
The ZIP file must be stored on a system that accepts FTP requests. One of the AIX partitions your pSeries server will do well for this purpose, although you can use any system that accepts FTP requests.
Step 2. Download ZIP file from the Internet
Caution:
To install a Version 3.3 corrective service
package, you must be running Version 3 Release 3.0 or greater of the
HMC. If you are not running Version 3 Release 3, you must
upgrade the HMC you can apply this corrective service package.
If you have not already downloaded the fix package, you can click the following link:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/server/hmc/updates/HMC_Update_V3R3.7.zip
The size of the ZIP file is 768116229 bytes.
The output of the sum command for this file is 62558 750114 HMC_Update_V3R3.7.zip.
If the system you are using to download this file cannot accept FTP requests from the HMC, you will need to move the file to a system that accepts FTP requests.
Step 3. Install Update
Cautions:
- As a safety precaution, IBM recommends that you back up critical console data. See your operations guide for more information on backing up the HMC.
- If you have configured the Service Agent tool on the HMC to run in server/client mode, you must first update all HMCs that are configured as clients. The last HMC you should update is the HMC that is configured as the server. This action will prevent problems between the Service Agent server and clients.
At the HMC interface, follow these steps to install the update:
- Select Software Maintenance
- Select HMC
- Select Install Corrective Service
- Select Download corrective service from remote system
- Enter the specified information in the following fields:
- Remote Site
- Enter the fully qualified name of the host where the ZIP file is stored.
Note: If you are downloading the corrective service file directly from the Internet, enter
ftp.software.ibm.com
- Patch File
- Enter the FTP directory and ZIP file name (that is, the
absolute pathname to the ZIP file).
Note: If you are downloading the corrective service file directly from the Internet, enter
/software/server/hmc/updates/HMC_Update_V3R3.7.zip
- User ID
- Enter the FTP userid. (For direct internet download, use "anonymous".)
- Password
- Enter the FTP password for the userid. (For direct internet download, use your email address.)
The HMC interface retrieves the update package from the remote FTP server and begins the install process.
Step 4. Reboot
Reboot the HMC after the installation of the update has completed. Rebooting ensures that all changes are available immediately.
Step 5. Verify a successful update
After the HMC is rebooted, follow these steps to verify that the corrective service update was successful:
- Select Help in the top menu bar.
- Select About the Hardware Maintenance Console for pSeries.
- On the "About" splash panel, check for the following information:
The Version is 3
The Release is 3.7
