Install corrective service from the Internet
The HMC is a closed system. All tasks are accomplished using the graphical user interface known as the HMC interface.
Use the Install Corrective Service task to apply individual corrective service (specific fixes) to HMC directly from the Internet. Check the Downloads tab or Readme to see if there are any prerequisite fixes for the fix you want to apply.
The Readme for your HMC version lists information you need for verifying the successful download and installation of a corrective service package (PTF or fix). There is a section for each PTF at the beginning of the Readme, with the latest package listed first.
In addition, the "View" link for a PTF, on the Downloads tab, provides a quick link to PTF-specific information in the Readme.
Step 1. Download and install the fix
- Select Licensed Internal Code Maintenance
- Select HMC Code Update
- Select Install Corrective Service
- Select Download corrective service from remote system
- Enter the specified information in the following fields:
- Remote Site
- Enter the following name of the Internet host where the ZIP files are stored.
ftp.software.ibm.com - Patch File
- Enter the following FTP directory and ZIP file name for ZIP file
/software/server/hmc/fixes/<filename.zip>
where <filename.zip> is the file name of the fix you want to install - User ID
- Enter anonymous
- Password
- Enter your e-mail address as the password
The HMC interface retrieves the corrective package from the remote FTP server and begins the installation process.
Step 2. Reboot
Reboot the HMC after the installation of the update has completed. Rebooting ensures that all changes are available immediately.
Step 3. Verify a successful update
After the HMC is rebooted, follow these steps to verify that the corrective service update was successful:
- Select Help in the top menu bar.
- Select About the Hardware Management Console.
- On the "About" splash panel, look for updated information about the fix you installed.
- Open the Readme version for the corrective service you installed.
- Compare the "Splash panel information" listed in the Readme to the information for the fix displayed on the HMC.
