Updating the HMC via Update DVDs
The "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard" and an HMC Update package are used to update the HMC. In addition, a required maintenance package may need to be installed. Check the Readme to see if a required maintenance package or manadatory fix has been released for the HMC Update release.
You can download ISO images for Update and required maintenance packages from Fix Central, and then burn your own DVDs or CDs from the ISO images as follows:

Follow these steps to install the update and any maintenance or fix packages.
Step 1. Install the update
The HMC V7 Update corrective service may consist of more than one DVD. All DVDs must be installed.
To install an Update package, load the (first) DVD or CD into the DVD drive on the HMC.
Next, follow this procedure for each DVD or CD in the Update package:
- At the HMC Navigation page, select Updates.
- At the Work page, click the Update HMC button to display the "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard".
- At the Current HMC Driver Information panel, click Next.
- An the Select Service Repository panel, select Removable Media, and then click Next.
- At the Installation and Configuration Options panel, select either CD-ROM or DVD-RAM, and then click Next.
- At the Select Service Package panel, click media image - no description, and then click Next.
- At the Confirm Service Installation panel, click Finish.
The HMC interface retrieves the update package from the physical media and begins the installation process. - When the HMC Install Corrective Service Progress panel indicates "Corrective Service installation was successful", click OK.
Note: If the Update package consists of only one CD or DVD, skip to step 11. Otherwise, proceed to the next step in this procedure. - If the Update package consists of more than one CD or DVD, the HSCP0205 panel indicates that the next image must be installed. Click OK to install the next image.
The HMC returns to the Select Service Repository panel. - Remove the previous CD or DVD, insert the next CD or DVD, and then repeat steps 4 through 8 in this procedure to install each CD or DVD.
- Remove the last CD or DVD.
Step 2. Reboot
Reboot the HMC after the installation of an Update or fix package has been completed. Rebooting ensures that all changes are available immediately.
- When prompted by the HMC, "Do you want to reboot the HMC now?", click Yes.
- After the reboot, log in to the HMC.
Step 3. Install required maintenance or other fixes
Put the CD for a required maintenance or other fix in the CD drive, and then follow the procedures in Step 1. Install the update and Step 2. Reboot to install the fix.
Step 4. Verify a successful update
After the HMC is rebooted, follow these steps to verify that the corrective service update was successful:
- Select Welcome from the Navigation panel.
- Select About the Hardware Management Console.
- Point your mouse over the HMC Version link on the Content panel to display Version information. Check the information against the "Splash panel information" section of the Readme for the update or fix.
