Applying corrective service fixes to the HMC via the internet (remote server)
The "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard" is used to apply Update packages and any required fixes, to the HMC.
Follow these steps to install a fix package directly from the internet.
Step 1. Install the fix
Prerequisites
- HMC must have network connectivity to the Internet
- External firewall must allow FTP.
If the HMC does not have direct access to the IBM FTP site, the files can be downloaded and placed on a local FTP/NFS server.
Follow this procedure to apply the fix:
- At the HMC Navigation pane, select Updates.
- At the Work pane, click the Update HMC button to display the "HMC Install Corrective Service Wizard".
- At the Current HMC Driver Information panel, click Next.
- An the Select Service Repository panel, select Remote Server, and then click Next.
- At the Installation and Configuration Options panel, enter the following, and then click Next.
- Remote server type
- FTP
- Remote Server
- ftp.software.ibm.com
- User ID
- anonymous
- Password
- <your email address>
- Remote directory
- /software/server/hmc/fixes
The HMC retrieves a list of the available fixes (PTFs), and then displays the Select Service Package panel. - Scroll through the list on the panel, select the fix you want to apply, and then click Next.
- At the Confirm Service Installation panel, click Finish.
The HMC interface retrieves the fix package from the internet and begins the installation process. - When the HMC Install Corrective Service Progress panel indicates "Corrective Service installation was successful", click OK.
Step 2. Reboot
Reboot the HMC after the installation of the fix package has been completed. Rebooting ensures that all changes are available immediately.
- When prompted by the HMC, "Do you want to reboot the HMC now?", click Yes.
- After the reboot, log in to the HMC.
Step 3. Verify a successful update
After the HMC is rebooted, follow these steps to verify that the corrective service update was successful:
- Select Welcome from the Navigation panel.
- Select About the Hardware Management Console.
- Point your mouse over the HMC Version link on the Content panel to display Version information. Check the fix information against the "Splash panel information" section of the appropriate HMC Version 7 Readme for the specific fix (PTF).
