List of fixes for MH01213
General fixes
This package includes the following enhancements and fixes:
- Additional logging has been added to capture more details when the user attempts a partition migration using Director & HMC. In some cases, the migration process on the HMC may never return but the partition is migrated successfully.
- Fixed an issue so Director shows correct state info instead of "unknown" for the managed system when the lpar is initializing.
- Fixed an issue so changes to the System Phone information were properly persisted when done in the ESA Setup Wizard and via the Manage Customer Information panel.
- Fixed an issue where SNMP Trap Configuration deletes entries when the change button is used and the user selects OK without changing anything.
- Fixed a problem with system plan creation where the plan had incorrect HEA mapping when VLAN ID is set to "none".
- Fixed issues with HMC backup and restore of console data.
- Fixed an issue where a resource non-disruptive system dump was incorrectly displayed as system dump. Resource non-disruptive system Dump type is now shown as resource dump.
- Fixed a problem where errors were being generated during the exchange of AMD.
- Fixed a problem in profile creation to return the error message instead of an unrecoverable error exception.
- Fixed a problem where the HMC was not giving a warning to the user when trying to DLPAR add HEA logical port that was already assigned to the partition.
- Fixed the use of 127.0.0.1 as the HMC "Hardware Management Console" SLP service URL address on the HMC. This avoids the confusion of SLP User-agent code trying to use 127.0.0.1 to connect with the HMC.
- Before release V7R7.1.0, HMC only registers "Hardware-Management-Console" service with one IP address to the SLP Service-agent. Starting from HMC V7R7.1.0 release, HMC (by default) registers its "Hardware-Management-Console" service with all of its configured IP addresses (not including local loopback addresses) as multiple URL records for the same services. Depending upon the subnetwork connected with HMC, the SLP User-agent may choose the proper service URL for further communication.
- HMC now provides two commands for "Hardware-Management-Console" service registration. The chhmc -c slp command can be used to add or remove HMC IP addresses registered to SLP Service-agent.The lshmc -n command can be used for checking the current SLP registered IP addresses.
- Fixed incorrect report of E212E113 that can occur on HMCs with 3Gig or more of real memory.
- Fixed call home error where HMC may send the problem data but does not open a PMH. E3D43103 OR E3550423 may also be reported.
- Fixed a problem where the vterm application stops accepting keystrokes when scrolling large files or command output such as ls ?lR.
- Fixed a problem where lspartition -dlpar may display connection as Active<1> for inactive partitions.
- Fixed description displayed for PCI card CCIN 57B7
- Fixed output of lshwres -F topology command for i5 partitons using virtual fibre channel adapters
- Fixed a problem where dlpar functions for virtual fibre and scsi client adapters is disabled in the GUI for IBM i Partitions on POWER 7 servers.

- Fixed a problem where mkhmcusr fails if authentication_type is ldap/Kerberos
- Fixed a problem where Partition "current configuration" activation is only available for user hscroot
- Fixed a performance problem that may occur when multiple HMCs managing multiple servers are on the same network.
- Fixed a problem where HSCL251D error may occur during system plan creation
- Fixed a problem where installios fails to install the VIOS partition due to space limitation in the root filesystem.
- Fixed an issue where if the HMC has a IPv4/IPv6 dual stack (or multiple NIC Cards) configuration, IBM Director is not able to discover the IPv6 address of the HMC.
- Fixed a problem where the userid in the dump initiation request via startdump was incorrect.
- Fixed HSCL150E error when trying to delete a partition with switchable IO.

Enhancements in HMC V7 R7.1.0
This package provides the following enhancements:
Command line
- The following commands have been enhanced to support Active Memory Expansion (POWER7 servers only): chsyscfg, lssyscfg, mksyscfg, chhwres, and lshwres.
- The chsysstate command has been enhanced to support activating partitions with their current configurations.
- The migrlpar and lslparmigr commands have been enhanced to support setting and displaying the inactive profile migration policy.
- A new attribute has been added to the lshwres command to display the minimum slot number that can be assigned to user-defined virtual I/O adapters on Virtual I/O Server partitions. To display this information, run the following command:
lshwres -r virtualio --rsubtype slot --level sys - The log_port_ids attribute displayed by the lshwres -r hea --rsubtype phys --level port command has been deprecated. It has been replaced by the logical_port_ids attribute.
- The port_counters attribute displayed by the lshwres -r hea --rsubtype phys --level port --stat command has been removed. The attributes embedded within the port_counters attribute are now displayed as separate attributes.
General
- Added support for POWER7 processor based servers. This HMC version will manage POWER5, POWER6 and POWER7 processor-based servers.
- The VIOS can be installed to a specific disk by specifying the -E PVID flag to the installios command. The PVID value can be obtained using the lsvg command on the VIOS and this flag is valid when executing the installios command in the non-wizard mode.
- In HMC V7.3.5.0, when a partition does not have a last activated profile, the lssyscfg -r lpar -F curr_profile command outputs "none". Previously, this command output "", that is, an empty string. This defect causes the lssyscfg -r lpar -F curr_profile command to revert back to its previous behavior for partitions that do not have a last activated profile, and output "" again.
- Enhancement to support status updates for IBM Director servers that connect to the HMC.
- Removed restriction of 128 of Active Memory Shared (AMS) partitions in a Shared Memory Pool for POWER7 processor-based servers.
- Removed the virtual adapter slot restriction for Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) partitions for POWER7 processor-based servers. Previously, virtual slots 2 through 10 were reserved for VIOS partitions.
- Enhancements to support Inactive Logical Partition Migration.
- Performance enhancements to support HMC that manage large partition counts.
- Enhancements to support Active Memory Expansion.
- Enhancement to support partition activation from current configuration.
- Extensive logging has been added to the events recorded during Scheduled Operations. The events are more verbose. In this HMC release, a number of improvements and fixes were made to the handling of Scheduled Operations. These improvements fix problems with handling errors from Scheduled Operations. They also fix problems with Scheduled Operations failing to run silently, with no logging of a problem.
- Error handling has been added to detect rare cases of startup and initialization problems in the HMC. Previously, in these rare cases, the HMC would fail silently and run in a degraded mode with no notification to the user. Now, the HMC detects these problems better and presents error messages on the local console.
Fixes in HMC V7 R7.1.0
The following fixes are included in this package:
General fixes
- Fixed a problem where the number of utilization events displayed on GUI was less than requested.
- Fixed a problem where unnecessary log files are not removed.
- Enablement of HMC to off-load a dump up to maximum size of 7 GB as compared to the limit of 4 GB. Dumps greater than 7 GB will be truncated to 7 GB and an entry is added in /dump/dump.log indicating the truncation.
- Fixed the problem where mksysplan incorrectly identified 78A2 and 9A01as expansion units causing the deploy system plan to fail.
- Fixed the problem where mksysplan created a plan with incorrect HEA mapping when a VLAN ID is set to "none".
- Fixed a problem where the HMC ran out of memory when displaying utilization data even when the user specified a small number of events.
- Fixed a problem where certain error messages are displayed without a message identifier (HSCLxxxx).
- Fixed a problem where if the HMC is rebooted soon after changing data in the Manage Customer Information panel, service event E35F0013 was called home.
- Fixed a problem where changes to the System Phone information were properly persisted if changed in the ESA Setup Wizard but not if changed via the Manage Customer Information panel.
- Fixed a small memory leak in the periodic operational test and hardware service information collection functions. This fix enables AIX performance measurement collection by default.
- Fixed problem where the HMC required a second reboot after an update.
- Fixed a problem to prevent a USB hang on boot after installing an HMC service pack package and the HMC is rebooted
- Fixed a problem where the 5250 Miscellaneous preference panel did not display correctly for DBCS Japanese locale.
- Fixed a problem to prevent error HSCL1588 when attempting to dynamically change tagged io setting
- Fixed a problem when using Director to connect to a discovered HMC. The remote browser opened to port 8443 instead of port 443.
- Fixed a problem to prevent call home error E3550423 from being generated during the "test connection" UI action.
- Fixed a problem where scheduled operations will intermittently fail to execute without indication of an attempt to run or error.
- Fixed a problem where the lslic command fails if an FSP or BPC is not connected, or has an error that prevents gathering of firmware levels. Any available information is now displayed, and "unavailable" is displayed for any data that cannot be gathered.
- Fixed an error where clicking on "View Power FRU Levels..." button on the "View System Information" panel fails when the selected target is a Managed Frame.
- Fixed a problem that could cause the Call Home option of the Manage Dumps task to report success, yet fail to call home the dump. The fix is for an intermittent problem which only surfaces on Storage System HMCs.
- Fixed a problem that could cause the data collected by the HMC for problems reported by the HMC to be incomplete. Specifically, some data specific to the failing system, such as its partition map and VPD, might be excluded from the call home data.
- Fixed the problem that when a DLPAR remove Physical IO is followed immediately by a DLPAR add physical IO on the same LPAR for the same IO, the DLPAR add Physical IO fails.
- Fixed a problem where the LPAR activation would fail after a customer does a priority restore giving priority to the current data. This would cause the additional VLANs to get corrupted.
- Fixed a problem where non concurrent maintenance exchange of DASD backplane on model E8A and M50 POWER6 servers would not show steps to connect and disconnect SAS cables.
Repair and Verify fixes for Power 570, 575 and 595 servers (POWER6-based technology)
- Fixed a problem where DASD exchange will generate errors on model MMA servers.ML.
- Fixed a problem where concurrent maintenance VPD card exchange will not show the connect all power cords panel in the correct sequence during the service action on model MMA servers
- Fixed a problem where block concurrent maintenance of memory will not display the panel to disconnect cables at the beginning of the service action on model MMA servers.
- Allow managed system to enter power saver mode even with a guarded CEC DCA.
- Fixed a problem to now discriminate between 5797/5798 and 5791/5794 IO drawers during Repair and Verify service.
- Fixed a problem to now include Frame and IO drawer MTMS when determining problem ownership during Repair and Verify.
- Fixed a problem with formatting of Add IO Drawer panel to make it more usable.
- Remove unused tools from list of tools required for repair.
- Add C10 FRU location to 5791/5794 Repair and Verify FRU configuration table.
- Fixed a problem to now display error message when there is no RMC connection from the HMC to an LPAR.
- Fixed a problem where a Concurrent Node Add operation could time out and recovery would not run correctly and subsequently prevented operation retry.
- Fixed a problem where the HMC panel flow was incorrect after performing POWER 595 MCM exchange, remove, or install tasks.
- During group block FRU replacement of MCM panels, the ordering of R&V panels was corrected.
- Updated Repair & Verify procedure for POWER 595 PU Book exchange procedure to include additional panels and instructions for installation of the VPD card into the replacement System Board prior to installing the replacement System Board in the system. The VPD card and System Board are shipped as separate parts and original R&V procedure did not include specific instructions to install the replacement VPD card as part of the exchange procedure.
- Fixed a problem where an exception occurred when attempting to remove an enclosure.
Security fixes in HMC V7.7.1.0
Fixed SSL vulnerability on port 2301 that is used by the 5250 console.
Known issues in HMC V7 R7.1.0
This package provides the following known issues:
- The HMC may run out of memory when displaying a very large amount of utilization data either using the Web UI, or using the HMC command line (the lslparutil command). When the HMC runs out of memory, the user will get an error on the Web UI indicating that connectivity to the console has been lost, and the lslparutil command will fail with the error "HSCL8016 An unknown error occurred while trying to perform this command. Retry the command. If the error persists, contact your software support representative." The HMC may need to be restarted.
Workaround: To work around this problem on the Web UI, specify a short time interval between the beginning time/date and ending time/date for the events, and/or specify a small maximum number of events. To work around this problem on the lslparutil command, use the -h option to specify a small number of hours, and/or use the -n option to specify a small number of events.
- If the Mover Service Partitions (MSPs) used in partition mobility operations have multiple IP addresses, then you may experience significant performance degradation for partition migration operations, partition migration validation operations, and the lslparmigr -r msp command. This is due to the additional connectivity tests performed between each pair of source and destination MSP IP addresses.
Workaround: To work around this problem, turn off the MSP attribute on any VIOS partition that is not needed as an MSP for partition mobility operations. For partition migration operations and partition migration validation operations, another workaround for this problem is to specify which source and destination MSP IP address you wish to use for the operation.
- The rsthwres -r io -p <partition name> and rsthwres -r io --id <partition ID> commands return a good return code, however no action is performed.
Workaround: To work around this problem, issue the rsthwres -r io command without specifying a partition name or ID, and all recoverable I/O adapters on the managed system will be restored.
- The rsthwres -r hea command returns a good return code, however no action is performed.
Workaround: To work around this problem, issue the chhwres command to remove each HEA logical port to be restored.
- The rmlparutil command does not remove utilization data snapshot files from the HMC.
- When we have an adapter with location code similar to
- - - - ', mksysplan fails to run successfully. By "removing" this adapter before running mksysplan, this problem can be alleviated; However, the information about this particular adapter will not be captured by mksysplan. - When performing cross hmc partition migration operation, if the client partition is using vlans with virtual switch of the id > 0, the vlans setting on the target managed system will be set to use virtual switch of the id 0. So this may cause the problem of the client partition not pinable after migration. The workaround for this problem is not to use the cross hmc partition migration (use same hmc partition migration instead).
- The Network Validation task function is not intended for an I/O only Frame and if executed will result in an error message of HSCS0325.
- Not able to group the custom groups in the System Management view.
- HMC Call Home with E212E161. On HMCs with IBM i partitions configured to call home using the HMC modem, the l2tpd process runs out of file descriptors.
- usb flash drive may not appear in format media list.
Workaround: unplug device, reboot, and replug USB device on HMC after it comes up from reboot.
- Excessive closure of Serviceable Events. The use of the SHIFT key to modify selection in the table of serviceable events selects more events than the user expects. When the delete action is taken, a large number of events are deleted.
Workaround: Do not use SHIFT key modifier to select events.
- User interface settings at logoff not changed to default values. If one unchecks all of the boxes in "Change User Interface Settings" gui, (including "Save settings as my default"), then one should expect the default settings for a new session. That is not the case.
Workaround: manually set default settings.
- Japanese text in Quick Filter window turns into English. Under the Quick Filters for System Plans in the HMC, the user locale is not being honored. This problem may apply to all locales. It appears to be limited to the quick filters.
- Unable to use some filter functions. On any hmc table with a numeric-data column - some filter options that require "two inputs" (eg "between") don't show the "other" input box.
- NullPointerException occurs while performing Guided Setup Wizard.
Workaround: Restart the guided setup wizard, which is accessible from the Welcome screen of the thscroot user.
- Close message link not working properly. On the view events panel, if one puts in an invalid time or date, then one gets the proper error message. Then when clicking on "Close Message", only the invalid date will close the message and return to same panel. The invalid time message will not close and one has to cancel to get back to that panel.
Workaround: cancel out and go back to view events panel.
- Time(second) is not set correctly under Japanese environment. In japanese environment, when one sets the time, the seconds field is set to 0 no matter what is entered.
- Tasks panel "Collapse All/Expand All" button disable. System management menus have more "collapse all/expand all" button greyed out even though there are more items that are collapsable/expandable.
Workaround: expand/collapse manually one by one.
- Console events are not correctly sorted in ascending/descending order.
- After executing ping with an invalid address, ping does not work.
Workaround: Go back to HMC Management menus, then to ping tab and ping will then work.
- Resource role is not copied correctly.
- Custom Group Data (sub-group) is not replicated. A Data Replication slave HMC discovers a new custom group but not a sub-group.
- Local Customization Data Change Warning is not displayed. Customer is warned about deleting Customer information, group, modem configuration and outbound connectivity data but not with user profile, kerberos or LDAP data. This is in a Customizable Data Replication slave HMC.
- The help window can sometimes not be closed.
Workaround: Use ALT-TAB to navigate to the desired Window.
- Console window opens in background in Firefox.
- When opening the console window for an lpar from Mozilla Firefox, the console window is sent to the background behind the hmc main window.
Workarounds:(1) Minimize the browser window holding the main HMC WUI, and locate the console window. (2) Run with a non-maximized browser window holding the main WUI, and you will see the console window open up beneath it.
- Installing corrective service using a media image on a HMC configured for a non-English language fails with 'Invalid keyword /media/cdrom/media image/ Corrective service installation failed.'
Workaround: Set the language to English or burn the media as data, not image.
- This problem occurs when the HMC is deleting old dumps to accommodate new dumps, While selecting the dump files to delete, the HMC chops the filename to 40 characters, filenames which are more that 40 character are not getting deleted,
Workaround: user has to make sure the dump filenames are not more than 40 characters.
Web browser requirements
The following browsers have been tested.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or Internet Explorer 7.0 is supported.
- Internet Explorer 7.0 is required if you are using IPv6 addresses on the network interface over which the browser is connected.
- Internet Explorer 8.0 is not supported; however, the Internet Explorer compatibility mode seems to alleviate most problems.
- If your browser is configured to use an internet proxy, then local internet addresses should be included in the exception list, consult your network administrator for more information. If you still need to use the proxy to get to the Hardware Management Console, enable Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections under the Advanced tab in your Internet Options window.
Firefox 1.5.0.7
Note: For Firefox 2.0 make sure the JavaScript options to raise or lower windows and move or resize existing windows are enabled. To enable these options, go to the Content tab in the browser's Options dialog, click Advanced? next to the Enable JavaScript option, then select Raise or lower windows option (a check mark appears) and Move or resize existing windows options (a check mark appears). These features allow you to switch easily between HMC tasks.
Other web browser considerations
Session cookies need to be enabled in order for ASMI to work when connected to HMC remotely. The asm proxy code saves session information and uses it.
Internet Explorer
- Select Tools -> Internet Options
- Select Privacy tab and select 'Advanced'
- Check if 'Always allow session cookies'
- If not checked, check 'Override automatic cookie handling' and check 'Always allow session cookies'
- The handle First-party Cookies and Third-party Cookies, you can choose either block or prompt or accept. Pprompt is preferred, in which case you will be prompted every time a site tries to write cookies. It may be a little annoying, but it is the safe thing to do. Some sites need to be allowed to write cookies.
Firefox
- Tools -> Options
- Select Cookies Tab
- Select check box Allow sites to set cookies.
- If you want to allow only specific sites then select 'Exceptions' and then you can just add this HMC to allow.

Additional information
Notes:
- The Install Corrective Service task now allows you to install corrective service updates from the ISO image files for these updates. You can download these ISO image files for the HMC, and then use the ISO image file to install the corrective service update. You no longer need to burn CD-R or DVD-R media to use the ISO image file to install corrective service.
- The ISO image requires DVD-R media (should you choose to burn the image to media).
- To install the updates over the network, select the .iso file on the Select Service Package panel of the Install Corrective Service task. The HMC application extracts the files needed to install the corrective service. If you use USB flash media to install updates, copy the *.iso file to the flash media, and then select the file when prompted.
- The updhmc command line command has also been modified to use the *.iso file to install corrective service. Follow the syntax in this example:
updhmc -t s -h <myservername> -f </home/updates/corrrective_service.iso> -u <HMC_username> -i
